We thought President Obama's poll numbers couldn't drop any lower, and then this — Kanye West is officially over Barack. When asked about America's struggling leader on Hot 107.9 this morning, West scoffed, "I’m not gonna mention him no more, I’m past that."
While Obama reached out to Kanye and buddy Jay Z during his campaigns, he's made it clear which rapper he prefers. Jay Z and his wife Beyonce were honored guests at his 2012 inauguration (Beyonce performed). Obama has in turn called Kanye a "jackass," more than once.
Kanye, clearly, is not fooled. "I just think that we’re pop icons," he continued. "And the president likes to use that type of thing just to be down and stuff." Despite his history of megalomaniacal rantings, Kanye is right on this one. Obama does use rappers and pop stars during campaigns to seem cool. Kanye spoke to the youth and black voters who overwhelmingly supported the president.
Now Kanye says Obama took easy shots against him after the Taylor Swift-VMAs debacle.
"People was fine with me being everyone’s punching bag for about five years — ‘Man, this is the person we love to hate, so if you want to distract people from everything that’s going on ... just say you hate Kanye and there’s going be 30 other people who say they hate Kanye.’ That was kind of my position in culture so he also used that too — ‘Oh, he’s a jackass’ — because that’s how the world felt."
Kanye will continue his Yeezus tour in Brooklyn tomorrow night. Obama will keep working on this Obamacare thing, we guess.
