On Sunday, ABC's Jake Tapper couldn't help himself. In the closing moments of his interview with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie he popped the question: "MTV's Jersey Shore. Positive for New Jersey or negative?"
Without skipping a beat, Christie expressed his disgust:
Negative for New Jersey. What it does is it takes a bunch of New Yorkers — most of the people on ‘Jersey Shore’ are New Yorkers — drops them at the Jersey Shore and tries to make America feel like this is New Jersey.
Ouch. By our count, Christie joins Barack Obama, John McCain and Carl Levin on the list of political dignitaries consumed by the Jersey Shore furor. Christie closed the interview with a nice plug for New Jersey's tourism industry:
I could tell people, they want to know what New Jersey really is? I welcome them to come to New Jersey any time. The Jersey shore is a beautiful place, and it's a place that everybody should come on vacation this summer. We've got another six weeks or so of summer left. Come to New Jersey.
