Chelsea Manning, who last August announced that she identifies as a woman and wants to be called Chelsea, has petitioned a Kansas court to make her new name legal.

Manning, who is serving a 35 year sentence for leaking thousands of pages of classified documents to Wikileaks, filed the petition in January and has a hearing scheduled for April 23, per the AP. If successful, her legal name will be Chelsea Elizabeth Manning.

The Bradley Manning Support Network announced today that its organization and website will also change its name to Chelsea Manning Support Network. The network says Manning is hoping to receive hormone replacement therapy as part of her transition.

Many news organizations began referring to Manning as "Chelsea" and female when she requested them to last year, but any mail to her in jail has to be addressed to Bradley, her legal name. If her petition is successful, that will change.
