The Boston Red Sox clinched victory against the St. Louis Cardinals in game six of the World Series on Wednesday night, earning their first championship since 2007 and their first one at home in Fenway Park since 1918. The final score wasn't even close, with the Sox besting the Cardinals 6 to 1 (the Sox had scored all 6 runs by the end of the fourth inning).
The victory comes at the end of a tumultuous series—including a rare obstruction call—and a trying year for Boston following the marathon bombing on April 15th. Following the victory, the Red Sox referenced comments that David Ortiz, who was awarded MVP, made in the wake of the attack when he told a crowd full of fans that, "This is our fucking city!"
The Boston Globe's Dante Ramos also reported an impromptu gathering at the marathon's finish line on Boylston Street after the win.
