Today, MLB's San Francisco Giants released an "It Gets Better" video as part of Dan Savage's project to fight the bullying of gay youth. "We speak for the entire Giants organization when we say that there is no place in society for hatred and bullying against anyone," pitcher Barry Zito says into the camera.
The video mentions LGBT teens specifically once and is a significant move in the traditionally macho world of sports. The Giants, World Series champions from last year, are the "first team in the history of professional sports to record a pro-LGBT video," according to NBC Bay Area. Five Giants--Matt Cain, Barry Zito, Sergio Romo, Andres Torres and batting coach Hensley Meulens--are shown in the video which features English and some Spanish.
