Update, 5:52 p.m. Wahl's statement:

Russia Today America anchor Liz Wahl resigned while broadcasting on live television Wednesday, citing Russia's decision to invade Ukraine as the reason for her departure.

Wahl, who works as a Washington correspondent, said she could no longer be "part of a network that whitewashes the actions of Putin," and mentioned her family, who came to America to escape Soviet forces during the Hungarian revolution. "I'm proud to be an American and believe in disseminating the truth, and that is why after this news cast, I am resigning."

Wahl's outburst was the second time this week that anchors on theAmerican arm of the state-owned television channel have drifted from Putin's official stance — that Russia is right to invade because the new government in Ukraine is illegitimate. Breaking the Set host Abby Martin said "what Russia did is wrong," and that, "military intervention is never the answer," live on her program.

There were at least some hints that Wahl did not agree with the station's official stance. Wahl's resignation maybe would not have come as a surprise had her station bosses paid any attention to her Twitter feed:
