Peyton Manning was already the first player to win four MVP awards when he was given the honor again on Saturday. Just hours before he tries to become to first quarterback in NFL history to win a Super Bowl with two different teams, the visage of the Broncos quarterback was beamed into Radio City Music Hall with a pre-recorded message after Manning was announced the winner.
"I am humbled by this recognition and grateful to my family, Pat Bowlen, John Elway, John Fox and the entire Denver Bronco organisation, and of course, my coaches and my teammates."
Manning set NFL records for both touchdowns and passing yards this year, leading the Broncos offense to net a record 606 points. In other words, despite the fact that Manning is the proud owner of several Papa John's pizza franchises as well as the fact that Papa John's presented this year's NFL MVP award, it turns out Manning really deserved it.
The real question remains whether Manning and his teammates with be bathing in celebratory champagne and garlic butter on Sunday night if they defeat the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl. Despite his records, accolades, and countless endorsements, the one knock on Manning has been his inability to win more than one Super Bowl. As most football devotees will offer, many of Manning's contemporaries, including his little brother Eli, have won two.
Also, will a win also allow us to forgive him for this?
