Timed to the Olympics, Universal has started to promote Angelina Jolie's directorial effort Unbroken with a trailer/featurette narrated by Tom Brokaw that screams IMPORTANT, INSPIRING FILM.
Unbroken is based on a Laura Hillenbrand book about real life Olympian Louis Zamperini, who was held as a Japanese POW during WWII. The footage we see of the movie certainly looks like it could be great, but it's hard to get a good read on the material from this trailer, cut as it is with real-life footage of Zamperini.
With a Christmas Day opening, though, it's definitely clear that Universal is presenting this film as Jolie's big Oscar hope as a director. Though it's not her debut—that would be In the Land of Blood and Honey—this is definitely her most high profile effort, and there's more talent behind the scenes. Joel and Ethan Coen are credited as screenwriters.
