HBO has given Looking, the network's first gay mainstream drama (that launched think piece after think piece about gay life), a second season. HBO made the announcement today with the announcement that Russell Tovey (Kevin), Raúl Castillo (Richie) and Lauren Weedman (Doris) have been upgraded to series regulars.
Take from that what you want, but it looks like Jonathan Groff's Patrick main love interests from show's eight-episode first season will be sticking around. And thankfully, Doris is sticking around too.
The show is more of a grower than a shower. It started with unimpressive ratings, "its numbers have grown over the season and, like Girls (with which it has been paired), it has generated significant media interest and debate," Indiewire reports. Some of those debates have wondered whether it was too boring, too white, not shocking enough, or that it didn't feature enough (or any) erect penises.
The second season is scheduled to begin in San Francisco this year.
