There are many reasons to be intrigued by Showtime's Victorian monster drama Penny Dreadful. One of those reasons just happens to be the return to prominence of one time heartthrob, Josh Hartnett.
Okay, so we don't see much of Hartnett, in this trailer. It mostly features images of a variety of creepy things—hey, dude who walks like a spider—and images of the preternaturally beautiful Eva Green reciting a monologue about "a place in the shadows...where some unfortunate souls are cursed to live always." At the end of the trailer, Hartnett says: "That sounds like a warning." To which she replies: "it's an invitation."
The show—which brings together classic monsters like Frankenstein, Dracula and the Wolfman—comes from John Logan, the screenwriter behind the likes of Skyfall and Gladiator. "I'm always tempted to say we're doing 'Scooby-Doo,' but I resist the temptation," Logan said at his TCA panel today.
But! While the show is intriguing in and of itself, we children of the 90s are just as interested in what Hartnett, who hasn't been in a memorable project in a while, has to offer.
