In a sign of its ever-increasing irrelevance, People just named occasional singer, reality show coach and Kmart clothing baron Adam Levine, who isn't even a movie star, 2013's Sexiest Man Alive. Congratulations, hot douche.
People has been awarding the Sexiest Man Alive title since 1985, and in all that time, including this year, it's gone to only one man of color: Denzel Washington in 1996. Even a woman has gotten the Sexiest Man Alive award (Cindy Crawford in 1993's special "Sexiest Couple" edition).
But don't worry, because, like usual, non-white men were honored in the sexy runner-up sections. Like the "United States of Sexy," with Don Cheadle (Colorado), Enrique Iglesias (Florida), Jason Momoa (Hawaii) and Aziz Ansari (South Carolina), among others. Or "Hot Brit" Idris Elba. Way to represent the sexiness of your respective homelands but not be hot enough for a cover, guys!
The "is People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive choice racist?" argument comes up every year (as it should), but the omission seems especially glaring when the bar is set this low.
Seriously. This low:
Meanwhile, The Rock is about to be freaking Hercules.
