The Olympic torch arrived in Moscow on Sunday after a quick trip through Greece. The welcoming ceremony was filled with Russian pomp and circumstance. In response, the flame extinguished itself while someone was running through the Kremlin.
This video from the Russian news service Rianovosti, alerted to us by Buzzfeed, is priceless:
That wasn't part of the plan, and the look on his face should tell you everything. What caused the embarrassing moment is unclear. Russia's RT blames a gust of wind for extinguishing the flame. Thankfully there was someone near by with a lighter to help Russia recover from the slip up. Though, the common lighter is a far cry from the solar rays that lit the flame seven days ago.
Prior to the briefly interrupted Kremlin run, the flame was treated like a king when it arrived in the country's capital. Vladimir Putin said the torch "will show Russia to the world as it really is, as the one we all love," during its record-breaking 39,000 mile relay across the country, including a detour into space on November 5.
