Good news for those who would like to be educated whilst they buy overpriced sweaters: Club Monaco is selling books in its new flagship store on 5th Avenue. The retail venue, opening Monday, will be decked out with a coffee shop, Art Deco fireplace, and a "1920s haberdashery display" as well.
Allison Greenberg, Club Monaco’s director of marketing and communications, told The New York Times,
We wanted to create a space where you don’t just come to buy a sweater, but are getting an education on art and culture. You can have a cup of coffee or sit in the library and read a great book that is relevant to the Flatiron district.
This is all to compete with J. Crew and the Gap, apparently. Greenberg continued, “We wanted to reinforce our status as a true lifestyle destination.”
The idea isn't necessarily bad, but if your goal is solely cultural education, you could go to an actual library. The books there are free.
