Welcome to the Box Office Report where we're that guy telling you to put your phone away while the movie is playing.

1. Argo (Warner): $12.4 million in 2,855 theaters [Week 3]

Mazel! After two weeks playing second fiddle to flash-in-the-pan hits like Paranormal Activity 7: Vegas Vacation, Argo finally took the top spot this weekend. Good for you, Argo. You were a good little movie with a strong cast. When we ventured to the local movie house to see you this week, the lady next sitting next to us in the theatre was constantly saying, "oh my God," even when nothing was happening. She was riveted, and made sure to say so when the movie was over. She was adorable. You could tell she doesn't go to the movies much.

2. Hotel Transylvania (Sony): $9.5 million in 3,276 theaters [Week 5]

Going to this movie is probably better than watching pointless hurricane Sandy coverage (looking at you, everyone asking how the storm will affect the election), but no one went to the movies this weekend because they were too busy fretting over things like "do I have enough food for the next week," and "what are batteries and where do I buy them?" Silly people.

3. Cloud Alas (Warner): $9.4 million in 2,008 theaters

Oh, Cloud Atlas. You silly little mess. You bombarded us with your awful trailer but reports that you might actually be good -- er, that you're ambitious but messy -- finally hooked us. We were going to avoid you like the plague, but now we want to give you three hours of our time. Unfortunately it didn't seem to get a lot of other people. This movie cost north of $100 million, too.

4. Paranormal Activity 4 (Paramount): $8.7 million in 3,412 theaters [Week 2]

Is PA finally dead? Probably not! The franchise is normally a mint but the fourth instalment seems to be the first time audiences aren't making it their annual Halloween date movie. Unfortunately it still only costs pennies to make so we will likely see another one next year.

5. Taken 2 (Fox): $8 million in 2,995 theaters [Week 4]

Liam Neeson: still here. Oh, and Skyfall did gangbusters numbers overseas. Just give it over already, sheesh. November 9 can't come soon enough.
