On last night's Daily Show, Jon Stewart followed up on perhaps the only story coming out of Syria that could be called funny: a batch of Bashar al-Assad's personal emails that were leaked to The Guardian. They show strangely humanizing, untyrannical things the tyrant does when not policing his people, like buying LMFAO songs on iTunes and picking up a Harry Potter DVD for his wife. That segment's followed by a two-part remote from correspondent John Oliver, who runs down the strained logic behind the U.S.'s decision to cut funding to UNESCO because it recognized Palestine.
