It's the second round of our Battle of the Brackets and after resounding victories, Jezebel and and its Gawker Media cousin, io9, go head to head, while the NCAA College Basketball Bracket takes on Muppet Madness. And voting for the second set of matchups in our first round will close tonight. So if you're a fan of the Fug Girls, Grantland, Garden & Gun or any of our first round players--keep the votes coming.

Now that the dust has settled, maybe it's time for a moment of silence for the brackets who didn't escape the first round:  Esquire's March Hotness, the Village Voice's Sound of the City hunt for the Best New York City Musician, The Consumerist's Worst Companies in America, and the eighth-seeded Name of the Year.

Ok.

Moving on.

Here are the first two quarterfinal matchups (voting closes on Sunday at 8:00 p.m. EDT-- giving you enough time to vote then watch the season premiere of Mad Men):

Matchup #1

#1 Jezebel's Sex vs. Chocolate vs. #5 io9's Worst SciFi Movie Ever Made

A whole year's worth of names like Courvoisier Winetavius Richardson, Taco. B.M. Monster and Yolanda Supersad couldn't deny Jezebel's battle of Sex vs. Chocolate a place in the next round. Jezebel wrangled nearly 70 percent of the vote. Meanwhile, io9 took out the higher seeded and hormone-driven March Hotness bracket from Esquire with 63 percent of the vote.

In case you were wondering, our Cinderella pick, frosting, is still in Jezebel's competition. And the bracket has stayed true to form for the most part. First round upsets included the ninth seeds "handjob in the back of the bus" and ice cream respectively taking down anal sex and chocolate milkshake. Though, the biggest upset of the tournament happened early this morning with 11th-seeded hot chocolate defeating 6th-seeded (and maybe too elite for its own good) chocolate soufflé.

Over at io9, they're into their second round to name the worst science fiction movie, and in the matchup we highlighted on Monday, it looks like Van Helsing made it out of that deathmatch with that other not good Hugh Jackman movie, Wolverine: Origins, but didn't make it out of a scrum with Bio Dome. Our Cinderella pick, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (which io9 calls "science fiction's most lovably terrible movie"), is still continuing its strong run.

So is it going to be Jezebel's bracket of sex acts and desserts that makes it into the Final Four?  Or do the editors at io9, some of whom probably had to watch what's going to be the worst science fiction movie ever made, that advance?

Matchup #2

#1 NCAA's College Basketball Bracket vs. #5 Muppet Madness

Can Muppet Madness find the magic again? In their previous battle with Consumerist's Worst Company in America, they seemed to be trailing throughout the voting process before snagging a 50.29 percent victory. The NCAA tournament, the defending and original bracket of brackets champion, had more breathing room in its first round match, overpowering the star power in the Village Voice's Sound of the City bracket which was brimming with New York City's (and some of Long Island's) best musicians.

The tourney has also had some fun storylines. The first being, everyone's favorite team to hate, second-seeded Duke, dropping in the first round along with some highly-favored state schools Michigan, Missouri, and Temple. Critics' favorite underdog, Murray State is still in it, but it seems that the darling of the tourney might be Ohio, a 13-seed taking on a depleted and top-seeded UNC team.

In Muppet Madness, our Cinderella pick, Rowlf, is still in it, easily advancing to the second round. But you know who didnt? Miss Piggy. In the shocker of the tournament, Gonzo sent everyone's favorite female porcine packing in the first round. Animal, Zach Galifianakis and those two old mean muppets didn't make it out of the first round either.

From the looks of it, Muppet Madness is going to have a hard time beating out the heavy favorite. But if the previous round is any indication, don't underestimate the power of zealous fanbase.
