The nominations for the 63rd annual Primetime Emmy awards were announced at 8:35 a.m. Eastern time Thursday. Mad Men led the weekly field with 19 nominations, edging out HBO's Boardwalk Empire, which received 18. HBO miniseries Mildred Pierce captured 21 nominations. Below, a list of the major nominees from the Emmys Web site.

Update 3: The delightful video of Bridesmaids star Melissa McCarthy presenting the list of nominees--and being completely thrown when she sees her own name for Mike and Molly--is finally (and perhaps only temporarily) embeddable, so watch it below while you still can. Here's a begrudging link to the official Emmys Web site in case our clip is taken down.

Update 2: The inevitable who-got-snubbed debate is already underway.

  • On Twitter, Variety's Stuart Levine puzzled over Treme being shut out ("David Simon weeps...") and called the lack of recognition for Southland a "major snub."
  • Hit Fix's Alan Sepinwall tweeted that he "expected [The United States of Tara] to get nominated."
  • Kyra Sedgwick wasn't nominated for Best Lead Actress in a Drama for her work on The Closer, "a notable snub" writes New York Times' Brian Stelter.
  • "I find it hilarious that Louis C.K. was nominated for best actor while his show, “Louie,” was aced out," writes Mike Hale at The New York Times Arts Beat blog. "He is the show, the show is he. I suppose that by doing it this way, the nominators can indicate that they recognize his talent without endorsing his dark, boundary-pushing humor."
  • Entertainment Weekly's Jeff Jensen was surprised Frank Darabont didn't get any recognition for his work on the pilot episode of The Walking Dead. "And how did the best thing about The Killing--Joel Kinnaman--get overlooked?" Also, Community got "robbed."

Update 1:  The New York Times's Mike Hale notes that perennial contenders Curb Your Enthusiasm and Breaking Bad were ineligible this year because of their late starts (Curb premiered last week, while Breaking Bad begins its fourth season Sunday.)
