In an article published on Tucker Carlson's conservative news
website, The Daily Caller, author Caroline May writes a trend story
entitled The Conservative Love Affair With Baseball.
In it, she asserts that baseball is purportedly the "favorite sport" of
many conservative intellectuals. Baseball, it appears, is appealing to
this elite group because it is "so damn slow", resistant to changing
times (unlike the NBA or NFL which have ramped up the intensity of their
sports), and its long season is "reliable, dependable and faithful." In
conversation with Charles Krauthammer, Rich Lowry and Fred Schwarz,
among others, she reaches this conclusion:
It is true that football long ago surpassed baseball as the nation’s most popular sport, but Alexander Cartwright’s much beloved brainchild remains America’s pastime and purportedly the favorite sport of many conservative intellectuals.
