Playboy magazine's September issue will feature an excerpt from Lydia Davis's new translation of Gustave Flaubert's "Madame Bovary." Considering Playboy's target audience is comprised mainly of men who want to see pictures of ladies without any clothes, and that September, to the best of our knowledge, will not take place in 19th century France, this may seem a curious choice. Not so, tweeted publisher Hugh Hefner, who declared the piece a "great read." And for the people who buy Playboy for the realist narratives, it probably will be.
