Karl Rove's legacy can hardly be contained in a memoir many found unrevelatory. What's more lingering is his philosophy of victory through cunning--which his rivals on the best seller list have taken to heart. Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson, authors of the business advice book Rework, were knocked from the number one bestseller slot on Amazon.com by the Republican strategist's memoir Courage and Consequence. In response, the duo threw together a masterfully tongue-in-cheek takedown in the style of Rove's signature attack ads, via the blog at their Chicago software start-up 37Signals. The ad is truly hilarious, slamming Rove for putting together a book that, among other things, uses a font "developed in France and not by hardworking Americans":
Initial reactions have been enthusiastic. Gawker's Ryan Tate dubs the jab a "spot on" example for future bestseller contenders: "Enough genteel politeness in the publishing world: Let a thousand takedowns bloom."
