Academy Award-winning actor Robin Williams was found dead Monday morning just before noon. He was 63.

His wife, Susan Schneider, released a statement through his publicist. "This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken," she said.

"On behalf of Robin's family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief," the message continued. "As he is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on Robin's death, but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions."

The actor, known for roles in Good Will HuntingAladdinJumanji, Dead Poets Society, and many, many more, was found in his California residence. Officials are still investigating the death, but have cited "asphyxia" as the apparent cause of death.

Fans have flocked to the actor's Instagram to mourn. He had last tweeted a message to his daughter, Zelda Rae Williams, on her 25th birthday, July 31.

Williams had publicly battled with depression and addiction. The Mork & Mindy star returned to television last year in The Crazy Ones, but the show was cancelled after its first season. He reentered rehab last month "to fine-tune and focus on his continued commitment, of which he remains extremely proud."

President Obama has released a statement saying, "He ended up touching every element of the human spirit."
