The venerable entertainment trade publication Variety is up for sale, and according to Nikki Finke it's throwing in the towel because it can't compete with her Deadline Hollywood. Variety publisher Reed Business Information has shed other business magazine properties over the last three years, it said in its announcement, but it's kept a hold on the more than 100-year-old entertainment publication. However, as The Wrap points out, Variety has struggled to compete with digital rivals, and while RBI has tried to sell it off before as part of a larger package, "this is the first time RBI has indicated it would abandon the trade."
